Things My Mother Taught Me
This month is dedicated to celebrating women. I realize not everyone who reads this is a woman, but you probably have at least one woman in your life—a mother, your spouse or girlfriend, or a daughter. But whether or not you’re a woman, this fun little piece made me chuckle, and I thought you would get a kick out of it too.
Things My Mother Taught Me . . .
To Value a Job Well Done
“If you’re going to kill each other, do it outside. I just finished cleaning.”
All about Time Travel
“If you don’t straighten up, I’m going to knock you into the middle of next week!”
Logic
“Because I said so, that’s why.”
Foresight
“Make sure you wear clean underwear, in case you’re in an accident.”
Irony
“Keep crying and I’ll give you something to cry about.”
Osmosis
“Shut your mouth and eat your supper.”
Stamina
“You’ll sit there until all that spinach is gone.”
Weather
“This room of yours looks as if a tornado went through it.”
Hypocrisy
“If I told you once, I’ve told you a million times. Don’t exaggerate!”
Circle of Life
“I brought you into this world, and I can take you out.”
Behavior Modification
“Stop acting like your father!”
Thankfulness
“There are millions of less fortunate children in this world who don’t have wonderful parents like you do.”
Anticipation
“Just wait until we get home.”
Receiving
“You are going to get it when you get home!”
Medical Science
“If you don’t stop crossing your eyes, they are going to freeze that way.”
How to Become an Adult
“If you don’t eat your vegetables, you’ll never grow up.”
Wisdom
“When you get to be my age, you’ll understand.”
Justice
“One day you’ll have kids, and I hope they turn out just like you.”

Thanks for the laugh, I totally needed that! I started homeschooling my daughter with autism this year and have been struggling with the worry that I haven't got what it takes... clearly I have this teaching thing in the bag (we've covered each of these subjects at least a dozen times :)

Liz, I've been without a computer, email, and cell phone...re-reading this and your comments about home schooling put a big ol’ smile on my face. How laughter heals the soul! You know Liz, I want to celebrate you! It takes courage and humility to speak authentically!! It also speaks to your security in Jesus Christ and your willingness to listen as He guides you. Ever pondered what feelings swirled in the hearts of Joseph, Noah, Moses, Elijah, the judges, David, the disciples, and assuredly our Lord? No one is without fears or doubts. See, emotions guide us to what’s really rolling around in our souls. Our fears reveal our struggles with trusting the Lord; our doubts reveal struggles with releasing ourselves to the Lord's care. Every day I have to think on God's sovereignty, goodness, faithfulness, and love...endearing my soul to His and finding rest. I read a book titled "A Shepherds Look at Psalm 23" by Phillip Keller. I urge you to check it out, such a comfort! Also, as he explains sheep---there's a bundle full of laughs waiting for you. Colleen Swindoll-Thompson
