Donald Emanuel (64 year old pastor in Colorado Springs)

I have visited Stonebriar on two occasions since my son and daughter-in-law attend there regularly.

As a pastor, I'd like to ask a question, Chuck. Your teaching is Biblical, your worship is accomplished without a lot of "glitz". The media screens are not loaded with a lot of "Hollywood hype"...the question is: Apart from you being the personality most of us will never be...how would you do the "marketing" of Stonebriar if you were just like "one of us"?

PASTOR DOUG ADAMS

HELLO PASTOR CHUCK,
YOU HAVE ALWAYS BROUGHT THINGS TO CLEAR LIGHT, THANK YOU.
I AGREE THAT CHURCHES HAVE GONE PRETTY COMMERCIAL BUT IN OUR STREET MINISTRY, WE ARE CONSTANTLY
CONFRONTED WITH COMMENTS OF WHAT WE HAVE TO OFFER. WHEN WE SHOW THEM THE SAVIOR, SO MANY TIMES PEOPLE REJECT THE MESSAGE BECAUSE
THERE IS NO PROFIT MARGIN.
MANY GLADLY ACCEPT BECAUSE THERE IS NO SIDE SHOW TO DEAL WITH.
THANK YOU FOR THE DEEPER LOOK.

You and Pastor Donald have raised some interesting questions here Pastor Chuck. I am a 57 year old pastor who languished (my idea) in small churches, often regretting and sometimes resenting the mega dudes. So much marketing is being done today I sometimes wonder if we have become "The Flash-Driven Church." (No slam at Rick). Besides word of mouth how is the church "marketed" to a skeptical world. I do agree that we have been portrayed as buffoons and idiots and out of touch with reality but in the case of many the pendulum has swung either that way or to "we are the cool ones on the block." Where is the balance? Thanks for a thought-provoking post.

JB

I'd like to piggy back the above questions of 'how then?' I am a new pastor (4 months) and it seems while many make the same point of being less like the world it's seemingly rare to read/hear what our approach should be. And out of curiosity, can we expect answers or no?
